Former WWE star recalls John Cena praising her and AJ Lee
In a recent appearance for Muscle Memory, former WWE superstar Kaitlyn recalled her match with AJ Lee at Payback 2013. She shared that their match was cut short mid-way, but irrespective of that, they continued over the allotted time.
After the match, they got a good reception and a fantastic match backstage. However, they were advised not to go beyond the allotted time ever against, mainly at PLEs. Furthermore, she shared how John Cena has several things to say about their match for the Divas’ title.
Kaitlyn said, “I don’t even remember. I remember Cena was back there. He was the one right there and he had so many amazing things to say. But I think he had a match after us and he was like, ‘You don’t go over your time on Pay Per View (PLE now in WWE)’.”
The former WWE Divas Champion added, “But you know in the big picture the women like we would always had our matches cut like always. I understand like money and what brings people into their seats and stuff. A lot times the divas; matches would just get cut.”
The former WWE star then shared how WWE would treat the Divas division back then when she was in the company. Clearly, Cena’s words would have made her and Lee feel good for their massive step mid-match.
Where is Former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee and What is She up to?
The last time we saw Kaitlyn wrestle in WWE was in the 2018 May Young Classic tournament. Moreover, she was also in a backstage segment on July 2019, RAW Reunion with Torrie Wilson, Alicia Fox, and Santino Marella. Also, she occasionally wrestles on the independent circuit since 2018.
Why Kaitlyn and AJ Lee went against WWE’s decision to end their match early?
The 36-year-old former WWE superstar recalled it was AJ Lee’s call to go over the time. The referee had already signaled for them to finish their match. However, they wanted to give a fitting ending to the match.
Kaitlyn shared the reason why she agreed with Lee to do so. She said, “We were so committed to that story, and we had put so much of ourselves leading up to that, that we were like, ‘We’re not just going to cut it short.'”
She lost the title to Lee, but it was a satisfying match for her. They didn’t get any major heat backstage for exceeding the time. Moreover, Cena also praised both for their match at Payback 2013. Hence, it was a win-win situation for Kaitlyn and AJ Lee in that match.
