No Way Home' Cast 'Compared Bulges' During a Photo Shoot

March 2024 · 4 minute read

The Spider-Man: No Way Home cast grew very close during the making of the movie. Particularly, Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire bonded over their shared experiences of playing the friendly neighborhood superhero on the big screen. And the first time the three of them met on the set, they were all wearing their costumes. And immediately, they started comparing different features of their suits.

The ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ cast recreated the Spider-Man pointing meme

There is a famous meme of three cartoon Spider-Men pointing at one another. So the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast recreated the meme for the movie since they had three Spider-Men.

A couple of months after the premiere of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Marvel and Sony released a picture of Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire pointing at one another in their suits. They had a photo shoot to promote the announcement of Spider-Man: No Way Home coming out on Digital, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray.

Of course, fans freaked out over the photo of the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast. The recreation of the meme is something many have wanted for a long time, and Marvel and Sony finally granted their wish.

The photoshoot was the first time the ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ cast saw each other in their suits

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Andrew Garfield shared details about the Spider-Man: No Way Home photo shoot.

“Me and Tobey landed on set. They put us in the costumes, and they said, ‘We’re gonna do the meme really quickly.’ That was before we had shot anything. It was like saying hello to Tom, and we’re all in our [suits],” Garfield revealed. “We were all kind of thrown onto a set and told to point at each other. I think we got one good shot because the rest of the time, we were just laughing and trying not to stare at each other’s crotches and just comparing bulges.”

The Spider-Man: No Way Home cast had different suits from their individual movies. So it makes sense that Garfield, Holland, and Maguire would want to compare and contrast their superhero costumes, especially when it was their first time on the set.

Andrew Garfield came up with the idea of how to incorporate the meme into the movie

Not only did the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast recreate the meme during a photo shoot, they also incorporated it into the film. And although they all were trying to think of the best way to include the meme, Andrew Garfield’s idea made it into the movie.

“So we all were putting our heads together about it,” Garfield explained to Jimmy Kimmel. “Jon Watts, who is this genius director and just so creative all the time, and Tom and Tobey and Zendaya and Jacob [Batalon], we were all just like, ‘Well, where do we put the meme?’ We had a writer’s room for it.”

He continued, “And I just so happened to have the Great Scott/Doc Brown/Eureka moment. I was in my trailer, and I sat bolt upright, and I realized where it should be. And I ran onto set, and I interrupted whatever Jon was shooting. I was like, ‘I got the meme!’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, you got it. That’s exactly where we should put it.’ So I’m proud to say that I got there first. But someone else would’ve got there otherwise.”

As fans recall, the three Peters point at one another during a scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home when Ned is trying to get Tom Holland’s character’s attention. But since they’re all named Peter, it was hard to differentiate between the three of them.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on Digital, and fans can purchase it on 4K UHD and Blu-ray on April 12.
