One thing's for sure, two things for certain: Rihanna is always worth the wait. The mother-of-the-navy and the mother-of-the-Fenty-babies made a little tardy but flashy and glamorous appearance at the MET Gala Red Carpet. One thing about Rih Rih is that she runs in her own time, granted, but she will always put a serious case to be the Belle of the ball. This year she did not disappoint and we can confidently say it was worth the wait.
Rihanna walked the red carpet sporting a triple XXL wedding dress, with a cape made of 500 petals. To match, she paired the look pair of playful white sunglasses decorated with false eyelashes over them. Now this was giving sixth form girlie's fiat 500 headlights energy… if you know, you know.
However, it all went uphill when she removed the shades to reveal a cold and frosty but ethereal eye makeup look. As the founder of Fenty Beauty, it was only natural the ‘Diamonds’ singer was going to serve us a major full beat. It was also no surprise that her Fenty Beauty Global Makeup Artist, Priscilla Ono, was behind it all. For this special occasion, they decided to go for something fresh and fun, a look that would be sure to turn heads.
First up, the lips. It was all about that iconic Rihanna-red, a shade that could stop traffic. Priscilla used Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Colour in “Uncensored”, £24. to give that bold, vibrant look that contours around her cupids bow which is a world-renown in its own right.
But the real star of the show was, of course, the eyes. The high-shimmer, pearlescent eye makeup was out of this world. It was like a disco ball had delicately leaked all over her eyelids. Priscilla used the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in “Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal”, £29, to give that intense shimmer and the base colour was created using the Fenty Beauty Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette in True Neutrals, using the shade “Velvet Cuffs”, £24, to give her eyes some depth and dimension.
49 best Met Gala 2023 beauty looks that we're obsessed withGallery50 PhotosTo balance out the look, they went for a soft-matte, chiselled complexion. It was all about that sculpted cheekbone, and they used the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 335, £32 to give her skin a flawless, even look. They then set the foundation with the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Powder Foundation in 300, £32 to give it a long-lasting matte finish.
To add some warmth to her face, they used the Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer in “Bajan Gyal”, £29. Finally, to keep everything in place, Priscilla went in with that Fenty Beauty Invisimatte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder, £25, that had a whole load of air-time on her iconic Superbowl performance.
It's now clear why every man and their dog waited for Rihanna to stepped foot onto the Met Gala red carpet. From the frosted eyeshadow look, paired with her iconic red lipstick, to the wedding inspired gown the whole look was show-stopping. It celebrated her unique style and beauty, while also paying tribute to the classic yet modern designs from Karl Lagerfeld. Right on theme.
Add this to the list of moments that will go down in Met Gala history. In fact, we're expecting the beauty corner of TikTok to be filled with the recreations of this look and you can join on the fun too now that you have a full breakdown. We can't wait to see everyone's creations of this Rih Rih inspired ethereal bride beat.
Name us one time Rihanna's face card was declined…? We'll wait.
