A North Carolina police chief was fired after snapchatting the captain's wife multiple times asking her to send nude pictures.

Jonathan 'Jon' Clark, 42, was terminated from his role as chief for the Mars Hill Police Department in October.

The termination came after he messaged the wife of police captain Chad Wilson asking her to send topless pictures.

The captain's wife took screenshots of the explicit requests, which were then shown to Nathan Bennet - the Mars Hill town manager.

After receiving evidence from Wilson - Bennet launched an independent investigation into the chief.

Clark admitted to sending the messages to Wilson's wife when Bennett confronted him.

'Your conduct in attempting to pursue a romantic relationship with the wife of one of your subordinate officers is reprehensible,' Bennet wrote in an October 17 letter addressed to Clark.

'To actively solicit that relationship is unforgivable and put your entire Department and the town of Mars Hill at risk.'

Bennett stated that Clark's dishonesty with him and the investigator left him with 'no choice' but to fire the former police chief.

'Your insubordination to me by immediately leaving my office and attempting to communicate with the members of your Department and with the victims of your misconduct is blatant,' Bennett said in the letter.

Clark, who married his 'high school sweetheart' Lindsey, who is a second grade teacher.

The pair have three young daughters together aged nine, 14 and 17.

The 42-year-old had served with MPPD since 2016 and started his executive position in March 2021.

'I'm a really big fan of community policing,' Clark said upon taking the Chief position in 2021.

'That's why I loved Mars Hill. It's a small town. I'd like to get to know everybody, which I'm on a very quick pace of doing that, from being the captain,' he said.

When newly-appointed, Clark said 'I'm just excited to be here and start this new journey and hopefully make some new friends.'

Outside of his sexual misconduct - Bennett also criticized Clark for his 'handling of firearms,' which were not 'locked and in a safe place contrary to all concepts of gun safety.'

Bennett further denounced the former chiefs personal use of the car provided by the police department which was intended to be used for official duties.
