A barefoot man has been found hanged inside a subway tunnel near Manhattan's Grand Central Station.

Officers said the unidentified man was discovered hanging from his neck by a wire, around 100ft down the tunnel of the No. 7 train. 

He was found by MTA workers at around 5:15am, and was said to be unconscious and unresponsive before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials noted that no criminality is suspected over the incident, and it appears to be a suicide. 

Horrific footage purported to be of the man's body was shared to social media, attracting a large number of views. 

It alleged to show the man barefoot but fully clothed hanging in the tunnel, with NYPD Emergency Service United officers readying to put him in a body bag.
