To celebrate National Chocolate Week, we take a look at what some of the original treat lovers are up to nowadays. Find out what little Charlie and the gang got up after they found their Golden Tickets...
1. Gene Wilder and Jack Albertson in 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory'.
The original cast, including Julie Dawn Cole, Roy Kinnear, Denise Nickerson, Leonard Stone, Ursula Reit, Gene Wilder, Jack Albertson, Peter Ostrum, Paris Themmen, and Michael Bollner star in an iconic scene from the 1971 film 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory'. Picture: Getty
2. Charlie finds his Golden Ticket in 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory'.
His role as little Charlie in the 1971 movie was Ostrum's only film role. The young boy from Cleveland denied himself any involvement with 'Willy Wonka after the film wrapped: "I didn't really want to have anything to do with it" he admitted to Oprah. Picture: Rex
3. Peter Ostrum is now a large animal veterinarian.
The 57-year-old former child star still occasionally gets together with the other cast members for signings however: "I've known these kids, they're like family right now". Picture: Getty
4. Willy Wonka is the magical mastermind behind everything...
Based on Roald Dahl's legendary character for the children's novel 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', Gene Wilder brought his own brand of eccentricity to the role in the 1971 film adaption. Wonka's top hat and long purple coat will go down as one of the most iconic movie outfits in history. Picture: Youtube
5. Gene Wilder at 82.
The 82-year-old American actor from Milwaukee was born in 1933. After his starring role as the infamous Willy Wonka in the 1971 film directed by Mel Stuart, the talented star continued to perform in movies throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s. However, it's this quirky role that he will perhaps always be best remembered for. Picture: PA Picture: splash
6. A very spoilt Veruca Salt gets stuck in...
Potentially the most ridiculous of all the lucky Golden Ticket winners, Veruca Salt's general behaviour is as nasty as it gets. The little brat is so pampered by her adoring parents that she doesn't even find the lucky ticket herself, but instead orders her poor staff to open multiple chocolate bars until they find it for her! 7. Julie Dawn Cole
The British actress continues to star in TV movies and series, including appearing in famous soaps such as 'Emmerdale' and 'Casualty'. The 57-year-old has two children with former husband Nick Wilton. Picture: Getty
8. Augustus Gloop falls in the chocolate river.
Definitely the greediest character of them all, the rather plump Augustus is his parents doting pride and joy. The iconic scene where he falls in Willy Wonka's chocolate river, only to get sucked up a rather tight tube, has gone down forever in movie history. The child actor Michael Bollner potentially had the biggest struggle of all the cast as he didn't speak any English when he took the part. Picture: Youtube
9. Michael Bollner
The German actor didn't continue to persue a career in acting after starring the 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory'. Instead the 57-year-old went into accounting. Picture: Getty
10. Violet Beauregard as a blueberry in ''Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory'.
Even though she was just 13-years-old when she performed as Golden Ticket winner Violet Beauregarde in the 1971 movie, the child star was already a well versed actor, who regularly stared in the soap opera 'Dark Shadows'. Picture: Youtube
11. Denise Nickerson
Not long after the release of 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory' Nickerson gave up on acting and pursued other paths. She now works as an accountant and lives in Denver. Picture: Getty
