A few days ago, renowned boxing trainer, Mike Stafford, 65, unfortunately passed away. However, his legacy will be on forever. He trained many notable boxers like Jamel Herring and Robert Easter Jr. but was a father-like figure for Adrien Broner. The 34-year-old has been going through a rough phase for the last six years.

The former multi-weight champion suffered from gambling addiction and was a victim of alcohol abuse. Although he made a successful comeback, the demise of Stafford took a toll on him. However, in a recent turn of events, while remembering him, he reveals it is time to move on and work on the hopefulness the late trainer had for him.

Adrien Broner pays homage to Mike Stafford

On his Instagram account, Broner made a heartfelt post. In the video, Stafford appears to be at an open workout, in the ring, smiling and dancing while having the time of life. Reflecting on the same, Broner mentioned the fact that the late coach had a charming personality and training without him would be a hard ask. However, Stafford had great endeavors for him and wants to continue to be on the right path.

Referring to him as a father figure, he stated, “My coach/Dad was a man of joy I miss him dearly and being in a boxing gym don’t feel right with him being gone I know life goes on and he would want me to continue my journey but this is a big pill to swallow but I’m go take this thing one day at a time #RIPCOACHMIKE *Simple Bastard* yo vc 😢🥹”

It is safe to say he played a big role in the life of Broner. However, the former champion is now willing to accept this unfortunate demise and work harder on his goals. That being said, Broner is not the only boxer who paid homage to the legendary boxing coach.

The former two-time welterweight champion, Shawn Porter  paid homage to the late boxer. At the same time, he acknowledged the profound impact it must have had on Broner given their close relationship. On a podcast, he stated, ““…that boy AB is going through it right now because that was like a father figure to him. So I know it’s again a lot of people out there that don’t know Mike, that don’t know the fighters he worked with, and stuff like that. I ended up on YouTube for a couple of hours last night. Just watching Cincinnati boxing…”
